The first ever GSS race in Greece went off in stunning fashion last weekend.  It was a spectacular day in Vouliagmeni with ideal weather conditions for the swim.  The athletes could not have ordered it better!

With a record breaking number of 750 competitors in the main event and more than 140 kids at the Kids race, the XTERRA Vouliagmeni Swim Challenge, the biggest Open water Swim race in Greece was a great success.

The race took place on November 6th, in the magnificent Gulf of Vouliagmeni the area that hosted the triathlon venue during the 2004 Olympic Games.  The water is crystal clear and the beautiful Greek coastline provided a stunning backdrop to the excitmement.  Energetic race organizers and swimmers made this the perfect day!

Athletes competed in 3 different distances (1000m, 2500m, 5000m) with or without wetsuit.  Athletes from more than 7 countries enjoyed a World Class event organized by the experienced team of XTERRA Greece. The beautiful location, the great atmosphere that was created by the spectators, the after race meal with pasta and traditional Greek meat sticks and the overall experience was amazing and left the best impressions.

It was a great way to give the Greek swimmers a fantastic introduction to the Global Swim Series.  Looking forward to seeing you again in 2017
