Aboutthe swim

The Banana Boat New Zealand Ocean Swim Series is New Zealand’s largest open water swimming series, attracting thousands of swimmers every summer to events across New Zealand.

This season, the Generation Homes The Mount Swim will play host to the Global Swim Series, Global Championship Event. Held at the iconic kiwi summer hotspot, Mount Maunganui, The Generation Homes the Mount Swim has become a firm favourite amongst series regulars and new swimmers alike.

Mount Maunganui Beach located in the Bay of Plenty, offers a perfect venue for open water swimming. Swimmers love the picturesque white sand beach, renowned for producing the occasional swell and providing spectators with a perfect vantage point to view races from start to finish.

The 2.8km championship event will be a “point to point” swim, starting on the beach and taking swimmers around the seaward side of two islands before finishing with a short run up the Main Beach. Spectators can access Moturiki Island on foot which will provide a front row view of the swimmers passing by before they turn and head for the finish line.

There will be other events on offer on event day for swimmers of all ages. The Banana Boat OceanKids Series offers 100 metre or 200 metre for seven to ten-year old’s. There is also a 500 metre and 1.25 kilometre event for swimmers who want to have a go at an ocean swim. If multisport is more your thing, the Amphibian combines a 500 metre swim with a 4.5 kilometre run around the Mount Maunganui base track.
