GSS South American Championships

About

We are very excited to be hosting the GSS – South American Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Rio is known as one of the most colorful, dynamic and active cities in the world.  And playing host to the Olympics this year will make it even more exciting.

In Rio, beach life is everything.  And the top beach in Brazil, and one of the most famous in the world is Copacabana Beach.  The beach is packed with people and life.  Playing soccer/football, volleyball, building sandcastles, soaking up the sun, and just looking good.  And swimming, of course.

Not only is swimming popular in Brazil, but some of the largest races in the world are held right on Copacabana Beach.  The GSS member race, King and Queen of the Seas (Rei e Rainha do Mar) take place here and typically get some of the world’s best open water swimmers out, as well as about 4,000 other swimmers who are a bit slower.  The event is so popular that it is even televised across the country.  Yes, open water swimming is big in Brazil.

And adding to the popularity of open water swimming will be the GSS – South American Championship and a chance to qualify for the GSS – Global Championship in Mexico!  So make a date to attend and check out the Rules and Qualification tab to learn more about how to take part in this incredible event in a spectacular venue!
