The 20th GSS race in the United States is Jacksonville, Florida’s: Up the River Downtown“!

DRC Sports and JumpingFish present Jacksonville’s first marathon swim in the St. Johns River.

Jacksonville’s Up the River Downtown 10k Open Water Race starts at Jacksonville University on the beach and finishes at Riverside Arts Market at the Fuller Warren Bridge. The swim takes the swimmer under the Hart Bridge, the Matthews Bridge, past the Stadium, through the Main Street Bridge, and under the Acosta and Railroad bridges. A unique way to see downtown Jacksonville!

And beside it being very scenic and in Florida, there is another great reason to do this race… it is going to be a FAST course!

The race is scheduled for September 22nd to leverage the flood/incoming tides. The current assist will get the average swimmer to the finish in less than two hours. Slack water is at 6:57 am and peak flood tide current is at 9:57 am.

So if you’ve ever wanted to do a 10k race, but thought it might be a tough distance (because, well it is!), well this is a great place to start.  Or if you feel like putting up a fast time, this is a great place to do that too!

Put it on the calendar, September 22, 2018, and sign up now!
