Aboutthe swim

Based in the Auckland Harbour the Marathon swim changes the course each year to suit the tides and currents generally on the last Sunday of April each year. This is the third year of the event with 100 entries last year. It is the largest distance swim in New Zealand and is designed for all levels with the tides working best for those between 3.25 and 4 hours, with a cut-off of 4 hours 30 minutes. It is compulsory for escorts for each swimmer or groups who must remain together for the swim. These are for safety and feeding. The swim is challenging not only due to the distance but also the conditions, generally some wind, thus a chop on the waters, so far everyone who has started the event has finished within the cut-off and for many it was their first 10km swim.
