Calling all swimmers with a sense of adventure! The Backwaterman Waldviertel gives swimmers a rugged adventure in an off-the-beaten path area in Austria.
Situated in the North of the country, this race is a classic long distance open water long event. With an unmistakable flair in the fjordlike waters of the Ottenstein reservoir north-west of Vienna, this race is sure to leave swimmers with some amazing memories.
The Backwaterman Waldviertel started in 2006 and has been the pioneer of the long distance open water scene in the Alps Region. Jumping from the ship to get to the start of the race is a legendary experience.
In addition to the traditional 7km race, there is also a 750m and 1500m Open Water competition. For the first time in 2019, a SwimRun competition will be offered in this unique natural setting.
