Aboutthe swim

Since 1988 this race has been the quintessential Canadian lake swim in the beautiful Coast Mountains. And fittingly, it is held on Canada Day, July 1. Sasamat Lake is a calm, clean and crystal clear lake, surrounded by spectacular tree lined mountains. A truly majestic Canadian locale.

The race itself, which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018, offers 3 distances (1km, 2km and 4km) and although there are typically over 300 swimmers of all abilities that usually attend, if you are new to open water swimming, this is a great place to start. Sassamat is a small lake, with typically very calm and warm (17-20C) water. The event offers swimmers the choice of wearing a wetsuit or not. If you are a more experienced swimmer, then this is a great venue to put up a fast time!

Regardless of your speed or ability, this is a fantastic race and venue and well worth the 1/2 drive to Port Moody from downtown Vancouver.
