The first Croatian race has joined the Global Swim Series and Croatia becomes the 30th country in the GSS!
The Raslina Swimming Marathon is part of the Croatian Cup and was first held in 2010. Since then it has grown to become one of the biggest and best races in the area.
The race is hosted by the “Society of Sports Recreation, Raslina” and takes place in the beautiful Lake Prokljan, just a short distance from Sibenik, Croatia. Lake Prokljan is unique in that it is a “brackish” lake, meaning that it is a mix of fresh and salt water. The water is usually a nice, warm 25C and is held in a sheltered area, making it a perfect place for open water swimming. It is also very scenic, as it is set in the beautiful mountainous region of Croatia.
The event offers 5 distances: the main race is the 5 km, but there is also a popular 1.5 km. Just to make the event more friendly and family oriented, there are also 3 children’s races too. And to keep it on a family budget, the races are also very well priced, among the least expensive in the world, not to mention that the children’s races are all free!
To add extra value, the contestants in the 5 km and 1.5 km race receive food and drinks after the race, as well as a race T-shirt and a certificate of completion! There is also awards for the top 3 overall finishers (male and female) and the 7 age group categories. For the 1.5 km race there are awards for the top 3 places (male and female) overall and 3 age categories.
As a proud member of the CRO CUP, the results from the swimming marathon are scored for the CRO CUP grand prize, which is awarded at the end of the season. The Raslina Swimming Marathon has been included in the official calendar of the Croatian Long Distance Swimming Federation (www.hsdp.hr). As such, it attracts a large number of professionals and recreational swimmers from Croatia and around the region. Now as a member of the Global Swim Series, we expect to see even more swimmers from around the world participating in this incredible event!
