The Caribbean covers some truly beautiful open water swimming locations. None more so than the Nevis to St Kitts Cross Channel Swim. This is an incredible destination swim, and for a great cause too!
The islands of St. Kitts and Nevis have spectacular charm that has drawn in people for centuries. It was among the first islands to be settled by the Europeans. Located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea it is a dual island nation that lays home to unique red roofed buildings and stunning harbors. That makes it a fun destination race!
The Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim showcases the two islands with a 4.1km between the two. It starts off from Oualie Beach on Nevis, travelling across the Narrows for a finish at Cockleshell beach on St. Kitts. A point-to-point, inter-island swim makes it an amazing and unique Caribbean open water race!
The 2019 swim will be held on March 31st and will serve as the 18th annual Bente Weber Memorial Swim. It continues to offer both a race and a challenge to open water swim enthusiasts and adventurers alike. They will take on the best open ocean swimmers in the region and the world. This race has been known to draw a variety of athletes, including Olympians like former US Olympic gold medalist Ashley Whitney in 2018.
One of the big attractions of this event is the opportunity to swim between two Caribbean islands, a bucket-list experience to be sure. The race can be seen also as a challenge for those looking to enter the sport of open water swimming or for those more experienced. So, for those just looking to dip their toes into the sport there’s also a more relaxed assisted category that allow fins and snorkels to get you across the beautiful ‘Narrows’. The Competition Category offers even the most seasoned swimmers some great racing not to mention some fun prizes.
In 2019 the race will continue to support the St Kitts & Nevis Special Olympics Group to raise awareness and funds for their sports development project.
So if you’re looking for a tropical island getaway this April you better start planning your trip to the Nevis to St Kitts Cross Channel Swim!
