Another amazing swim on the Great Lakes is the Point to Lapointe Swim in Lake Superior, starting in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
The race is actually pretty amazing in that despite the fact that it takes place in a small town in Wisconsin, they have created a race that is so well received that they get over 500 swimmers participating each year. The race started as a small community swim in 2006 and has grown to become a thriving community event.
The race is a 2 mile, point to point swim that starts in Bayfield, Wisconsin, and proceeds across the waters of Lake Superior to land on beautiful Madeline Island. Swimming to Madeline Island has been a storied feat around the Bayfield area for decades.
In this race you can enjoy the clear, clean fresh water and small town hospitality the event offers. Swimmers also get to fully experience any of mighty Lake Superior’s moods from calm, flat water to 2 foot waves and current. As one of the largest freshwater bodies of water in the world, conditions can vary year to year.
Spectators can take the ferry across the route which offers great views of the race. The event is a fundraiser for swim programs at the local pool and rec center.
Don’t miss out on your chance to swim in beautiful Lake Superior at one of the top swims in the United States!
