Global Rankings Update

After the action-packed summer (in the Northern Hemisphere that is) the fall saw the remaining Global Swim Series races get spaced a little further apart.  However, with the equally exciting and beautiful Barbados Open Water Festival a couple weeks ago the action has begun to pick up again.  As you have now probably noticed, a number of new races have been added to the GSS schedule including several in Australia to keep the action going as we head in the Australian summer months.

Next weekend the series returns as we travel to Mexico for one of the largest open water swimming races in the world, that will take place in Acapulco.  Approximately 3,500 swimmers are expected to attend the 2 day 57th annual Tradicional Maraton Acapulco.

We have now updated the Global Rankings to include the Barbados Open Water Festival and as you can see there have been some exciting developments in the overall rankings.

While there was no wetsuits allowed at the Barbados swim, our rules allow that for races where everyone must conform to one division (wetsuit or non-wetsuit) their points can count to whatever division that they previously raced in during other GSS races.

Leaderboard Update:

Mairi MacGregor has solidified her dominance over the Female Wetsuit category.  With the points she earned in Barbados she now has completed 8 races and has an almost 300 point lead on Lynn Rodgers who remains in 2nd followed closely by Anne Wilkie of Canada and Nancy Edmead of Ireland.

Trevor Connors had a strong performance in Barbados and with that he was able to take over the top spot in the ultra-competitive Men’s wetsuit division over Bud Seawright.  Gerry Kelly remains in 3rd.  With that swim Connors becomes the first person ever to break the 800 point mark in the Global Swim Series with 800.69 points.  Way to go Trevor!

Little changed on the leaderboard in the non-wetsuit division but it’s worth mentioning that a big win by Taylor Abbott and strong performances by Luis Weekes and Kobi Talma in Barbados has landed them all a spot in the top 20 on the Men’s side.

*As you can see on our Rankings page we have gone back to the pdf format for the results.  With close to 10,000 swims now being recorded in the Global Swim Series so far this season we are constantly working on improving our rankings system to handle the massive amounts of swimmer information, we hope to bring this feature back sometime in the future.  In the meantime, to locate yourself on the pdf use the CRTL+F function.
