GSS Global Championships are back and will once again be held at the incredible El Cruce race in Cancun, Mexico.  This amazing venue will host the championship event for the 3rd straight year and will offer a variety of distances for swimmers of all abilities to challenge themselves at a world class open water event!

Race weekend is May 25-26th, 2019.  The Saturday features the Cancun Mile (1.6km) and the Cancun Iron Swim (3.8km).  On Sunday it’s the main event for which the event is named, El Cruce (“the Crossing”).  The full crossing is a 10km swim.  Swimmers travel from the beaches of Cancun to the beautiful offshore island of Isla Mujeres.  The swim is challenging, but over this distance swimmers will swim through crystal clear waters with excellent visibility as they pass over several coral reefs, a variety of fish, sea turtles and rays.

You can learn more about the event on our Race Page.

Registrations are now open and have already shown plenty of enthusiasm, so start planning your trip today!

Cancun and the Mayan Riviera are Mexico’s most beautiful and internationally renowned tourist destinations.  With world-class resorts, restaurants, beautiful beaches, nearby Mayan temples and so much more there’s plenty to entertain the whole family aside from the swim!

New last year we also had a GSS All Star Autograph session at El Cruce where 8 different former Olympian and world-class open water swimmers signed autographs at a meet & greet at the event registration.  We’re still waiting to announce this year’s All Star lineup, so stay tuned as we get closer to the race!

See you in Cancun!
