The Global Swim Series is pleased to announce that we have added 2 additional races to the Series, both in countries brand new to GSS! The Kotlin Race in St. Petersburg, Russia and The Point Leo Swim Classic just outside of Melbourne, Australia will both provide great new global additions to the series and both offer a completely different experience.

The Kotlin Race is the first true “marathon swim” to join GSS. It is a 25km crossing starting from the historic harbor in St. Petersburg and finishing at Kronstadt Island. This race is unique to GSS in that it takes place in a “time trial” style where competitors have from May 15 – Sept 15 to complete the crossing and have their times ranked to decide the overall winner and earn GSS points. The Kotlin Race results for 2015 will count for this season and will be added to the rankings.

The Point Leo Swim Classic will be the first GSS race ever in Australia, taking place on the beautiful sandy beach at Point Leo, just a little outside of Melbourne. The race will take place on Boxing Day and has been held for the past 30 years offering a 1.2km and a 2.5km distance. This race will actually be the kick-off of the 2016 GSS season.

With these 2 new additional races we are also pleased to announce the official finish date of the 2015 schedule and the start date of the 2016 GSS schedule. The 2015 season which started back in June will officially end after the final stage of Rei e Rainha do Mar (King & Queen of the Sea) in Brazil on December 13th. We will announce winners in all categories and divisions following that race.

Then starting on December 26th with the Point Leo Swim Classic we will kick off the 2016 season (yes technically starting in 2015). The 2016 season will run the whole year and finish in December 2016. This allows us to add more races in the Southern Hemisphere while they enjoy their summer and work towards making the Global Swim Series even more truly a global event!
