The Newport Surf Club’s marquee event the Pool to Peak Ocean Swim, is back on the Global Swim Series calendar this January.  Located at one of Sydney, Australia’s nicest Northern beaches this is a great swim to celebrate summer in Australia.  As with many Australian beach swims, the swim is organized by the local surf and lifeguard club.  The club is offering a warm welcome to overseas swimmers for the Newport Pool to Peak Ocean Swims to be held on Sunday 6 January 2019, smack bang in the middle of Sydney’s summer season.

The Pool to Peak Ocean Swims include 400m, 800m and 2km courses at picturesque Newport Beach with the 2km being the signature event. The shorter 400m and 800m courses were introduced to encourage pool swimmers to try out ocean swimming and this has been highly successful. Many have graduated to the major event.

The 400m course accepts swimmers from age 10 years giving young swimmers, often up and coming champions, the chance to enter an ocean swim. Not surprisingly quite a few of the 2Klms swimmers use the 400m or 800m courses as warm-up events. In 2018 the Pool to Peak ocean swims attracted 755 swimmers a record for the event. There are also many older swimmers entering each year.

“Newport Surf Club calls the Pool to Peak the friendly affordable ocean swims. There is a strong emphasis on safety and enjoyment with literally an armada of safety craft on the water keeping a close eye on swimmers. Timing anklets are provided for swimmers so that all swimmers can be accounted for as well as providing rapid swim results.

“On the beach swimmers are met with luscious, fresh fruit to take away the salt water taste and, of course, water is provided in reusable cups for the protection of the environment, ” said John Guthrie a member of the Pool to Peak organising team.

For those who like to loosen up before their swim or those who want to relax tired muscles there are massages available for a gold coin donation to the club provided by local physiotherapists.

There are great lucky swimmer prizes based on a draw of swimmers’ race numbers to ensure everyone has a chance of winning a prize. Specially struck medals are presented to the winners and placegetters of each category.

Entries will be available online at www.oceanswims.com by the end of September.

So, if you are considering a trip to wonderful Australia why not enter the Newport Pool to Peak to really get a taste of Australian hospitality and mateship. There is an ocean swim in the local area each Sunday in January and it’s an opportunity to swim at some of the most beautiful beaches Australia has to offer.
