We are excited to announce our latest addition to the Global Swim Series and the world of open water swimming: GSS Swim Trips!
GSS Swim Trips are top-tier swim vacation packages for swimmers of all abilities. All trips will have a focus on open water swimming. The Swim Trips will also have 2 unique qualities:
- The swim trips will be in spectacular locations that will allow swimmers to participate in the Swim Trip AND a GSS Race.
- The GSS Swim Trips will be hosted and coached by some of the best swimmers in the world. Each trip will be run by Olympic and other world-class swimmers that have an extraordinary amount of experience and knowledge to provide participants.
We’re also pleased to announce the launch of our inaugural GSS Swim Trip, which will take place in conjunction with Global Championships at El Cruce in Cancun, Mexico. The Swim Trip will take place the week immediately before the world famous race and be hosted by 2008 Beijing Olympian, Luis Escobar.
Luis has an extensive open water swimming background, having swam the 10km event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He has also competed at FINA World Championships and numerous FINA World Cup races. Escobar was an exceptional pool swimmer and was the first Mexican swimmer to swim 1500 free in under 15 minutes. For almost a decade Luis Escobar was one of the top open water swimmers in the world and is excited to now share his knowledge with other swimmers.
As for the trip itself, it will be held May 19-26 in Cancun, Mexico. The camp will provide swimmers with both pool and open water workouts and the week will finish off with none other than the GSS Global Championships at El Cruce!
The El Cruce event offers something for everyone with 3 races over 2 days. The Cancun Mile, the Cancun Iron Swim and El Cruce – the 10k swim from Cancun to Isla Majures. El Cruce is one of the largest 10k races in the world, with over 1,000 swimmers. The whole event is spectacular. It is held in the beautiful, crystal clear waters and warm sandy beaches of Cancun.
The Swim Trip in Cancun will offer swimmers a few cool excursions to places like the underwater museum on Isla Majures, and a day trip swim to the only Mayan ruin on the beach at Tulum. Not to mention, 4 long course pool workouts, 4 open water workouts, dryland workouts, stretching, video stroke analysis, 4 team meals and even some GSS swag.
