This weekend is the grand finale of the GSS Ireland swims on the 2015 schedule and it’s looking like the best has been saved for last. The Glendalough National Park Swim is an extraordinary race in Ireland’s most visited national park. The event takes place over the whole weekend with races on both Saturday and Sunday.  It is actually the only time during the year where the public is allowed to swim in the beautiful glacier lake and is an opportunity not to be missed.  The swim takes place in a breathtaking Glacier formed lake that is over 100ft deep and surrounded by majestic mountains on all sides.

This year will be a sellout crowd, the 1.5km on Saturday has sold out at 200 swimmers and the 750m already has over 100 swimmers as well.  The 3.9km finale on Sunday is also sold out with 200 swimmers as well.

There should be some great competition at this event, last year’s 3.9km was won by long distance swimmer and Irish Olympic hopeful Chris Byran in a stunning 48 minutes.  We will see if anyone gets close to that this year. There are also a lot of international swimmers entered in races throughout the weekend.

This will also be a very important event for the Global Rankings. There are a number of Irish swimmers that have already completed 2 races and are within striking distance of top spots in their divisions.  This race will also determine the overall winners in our GSS Europe division. So there is plenty on the line this weekend and it should make for an action packed couple days of racing.
