Le défi de Monté Cristo Marseille
EDF Aqua Challenge Marseille
Not surprisingly, this is one of the most popular races in France!
The first edition of this race took place in 1999 and it has grown in popularity since then, to such a point that the 2.5k and 5k often sell out quickly (but you can get on the waiting list!).
But the history of this race and significance of the location, go back much before 1999.
This particular little island, located just 1.5k off the coast from the city of Marseilles, is the home of Château d'If , which was a fortress, and later prison, that was built in 1531.
The prison in particular was made famous by author Alexandre Dumas when he included it as the center-piece of the classic novel (and several later movies) "The Count of Monte Cristo" written in 1844.
So come and visit the spectacular city of Marseilles, and while you are enjoying the city you can challenge yourself to see if you can do what Edmond Dantès did more than 175 years ago!
The only difference is your legendary swim won't be a work of fiction!
