Aboutthe swim

Not many open water swimming races can say that they take place swimming around a medieval castle, but that’s what sets the Lough Key Castle Island Loop apart. Usually one of the first GSS races of the season in Ireland, the Lough Key Castle Race takes place in a clean, tree lined lake that has one of the country’s most unique castle locations standing proud in the middle of the swim. The aptly name ‘Castle Island’ gets lapped by the 1.5km course while the 750m swimmers will cruise by its front door.

Surrounded by ancient local legends and epic history, the Lough Key Castle Swim offers an unparalleled and historic course and is always a fantastic way to start the open water swimming season in Ireland!
