Aboutthe swim

The Peaks to Portland Swim to Benefit Kids is one of the oldest open water swims in the world! The race has been going since before World War II, and since then thousands have braved Maine’s waters to swim the 2.4 miles from Peaks Island to Portland’s East End Beach.

There are participants of various fitness levels and competitive experiences, and includes swimmers ages 16 years and up. We encourage anyone who can swim a mile in less than 40 minutes to join us for this unforgettable swim across beautiful Casco Bay!

All proceeds benefit children in the YMCA of Southern Maine’s youth development programs. There are even some great prizes for various levels of fundraising.

The historic and beautiful seaside city of Portland, Maine is a scenic 2 hour drive from Boston and is well worth the trip! (not to be confused with Portland, Oregon… on the west coast, that’s a 47 hour drive from Boston!) This event makes for a spectacular weekend getaway, with a fun and historic swim, in a fun and historic town! So sign up now!
