A Canadian classic headlines this weekend on the GSS schedule. The 9th annual Bring on the Bay swim located just outside of Ottawa, Canada is annually one of the largest open water races in Canada and was a prominent member of the series last year. This year’s edition of the 3km swim already has close to 600 athletes registered and should make for an action packed swim. Expect to see some big names in the series there as they try to move up in the Global Rankings.
This year will feature a rolling start for the first time where (similar to a marathon) swimmers will self seed themselves by time and their official time will start only once they cross the mat. This will reduce congestion at the start and takes away some of the stress for beginners.
The swim itself is a point to point swim in the Ottawa River starting at the Nepean Sailing Club and finishing at the Britannia Yacht Club. The course will be well-marked with swim buoys, as well as anchored sailboats from the sailing clubs which also provide some excellent scenery.
All proceeds from the will be donated to Easter Seals Ontario, benefiting children with physical disabilities in the Ottawa area.
This is always a great race and we here at GSS hope to see everyone out on Saturday.
