This past Saturday Bring on the Bay hosted it’s largest event ever. The 9th annual 3km swim in Ottawa, Canada is already one of the largest in the country and this year’s edition had over 600 swimmers competing in the event. There is always a lot of buzz about this great event that draws swimmers in from all over, but with a bigger and better than ever event and great interest in the sport recently the 2015 race was a specatular event.

The 3km point to point swim is very scenic, taking place on the Ottawa River the swimmers travel from the Nepean Sailing Club and finishes at Britannia Yacht Club.  Throughout the swim the swimmers have great scenery as they pass by beautiful yachts anchored along the river.

This race always attracts some fast swimmers. A scenic course, great organizing and an accessible location make this a popular race for swimmers to road trip to from all over. Many hope to add another race to improve their position in the Global Rankings. This year’s race saw Greg Streppel, one of Canada’s best ever open water swimmers, put on an absolutely dominating performance. He posted an incredibly fast 34:30 in in the 3km swim where there was some chop to swim through.  Streppel is continuing his strong 2015 season and this win against a large field will give him a nice boost to the top of the Global Rankings.

In the women’s race Mackenzie Wright was able to defend her crown from last year at Bring on the Bay and was not only the female non-wetsuit champion but also the fastest overall female.  She finished in a fast time of 41:21.
