RCP Tiburon Mile
One of America's most high profile open water swims, come swim in one of the fastest miles on the planet!
The famous RCP Tiburon Mile takes place in Tiburon, California, just across the Bay from San Francisco and was founded by Robert C. Placak in 1999. Since then, the one-mile race has grown in popularity and prestige over the years. It has become one of the most competitive, famous and well respected open water swim events in the world! The race is swum in the waters of The Raccoon Straight, just a quick drive away from San Francisco, and is known for being one of the premier events in the open water swimming calendar.
The race is a point to point swim that starts with a ferry ride from Tiburon to Angel Island. Once there, swimmers head over to the start line at Ayala Cove where they then swim one mile back to mainland. The finish line is at Corinthian Yacht Club Beach and spectators can cheer on the finishing competitors from the wharf. For supporters looking to cheer on friends and family, there will also be entertainment and food available at the race site. The food tent, under the supervision of John Scoppazi, will feature delicious food from some of Marin Counties' most prestigious restaurants including: Green Chile, Guaymas, Servinos, Milanos, Il Davide, Rustic Bakery, PF Chang’s, Comforts, and Tomatina.
There are 4 divisions including: elite, age group, wetsuit, and team. The competition is tough and usually has over 800 swimmers that you will be competing with. This includes many Olympic and World Champions as well as international swimmers from Russia, Canada, Australia, and Germany. Another important aspect of the RCP race is its charitable affiliation. In 2018 the chosen charity is Lifehouse, Inc. RCP is excited to partner with this amazing organization to help raise funds and awareness to promote their mission "to improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities in the community by providing a lifetime of compassionate support in an atmosphere of respect, inspiration, and purpose.” Visit their facebook page or website for more information on all the wonderful work they do. www.Lifehouseagency.org.
