New Zealand has added the Round North Head Classic to the GSS!  And this is not your usual ocean swim!

This iconic swim has become a regular fixture for many Auckland swimmers and regulars on the open water circuit. The Round North Head Classic has traditionally been the first major swim of the season, usually occurring in late October or November. The 2.5km swim sets off from Windsor Reserve beach, running with the tide around North Head, finishing in front of Balmain Reserve on Cheltenham Beach. There is also a Short Course 1.2km swim that starts at Torpedo Bay boat ramp, again finishing at Cheltenham Beach. The event is open to the public, but all entrants should be competent swimmers. The question is: Are you game to enter the Freedom Swimmers category?  And what is a “Freedom Swimmer”… well… it’s not swimmers swimming to protest free rights somewhere in the world… it’s the other kind of “freedom”.  Physical freedom.  As in… naked!

There are plenty (or at least a few) naked swims around the world, where people go for a skinny dip to be close to nature.  Very close.  But to the best of our knowledge, this is the only actual race that has truly naked swimmers!  And we love it!  As our motto says, we are all about inclusion and an adventurous lifestyle… and I think this definitely qualifies as “adventurous”!

Prizes to the fastest swimmers in each category, plus plenty of spot prizes at the end*.  Oh and bacon & egg pie + refreshments to all entrants!

So if you ever had an interest in doing a “freedom swim” this race is for you!  Of course, you can also just join the majority of swimmers and come for a fun, competitive and exciting event too!
