Generation Homes Sand to Surf
New Zealand Ocean Swim Series
Sand to Surf is another of the 7 great races in the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series. Like the other races in the Series, this is a big one, with over 1,000 swimmers and a bunch of distances to chose from. The race is made for everyone, from those new to open water swimming and the kids, as well as Masters, competitive swimmers, triathletes and even a select group of elite swimmers.
This is what ocean swimming is all about – taking the plunge in summer at one of New Zealand’s best destination surf beaches. Playing host to national surf and surf life saving competitions, the Mount’s Main Beach is the perfect location to test your ocean swimming skills in the surf conditions in the Sand to Surf, the fifth of seven events in the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series.
Consisting of four different swim events, the Sand to Surf provides an ocean swim event for all ages and abilities:
‘I’m Going Long’ 2.6km – a swim off the Main Beach, around Motuotau and Moturiki Islands
‘Step it Up’ 1km – a swim off the Main Beach, an achievable distance for individuals with swimming experience
‘Give it a Go’ 500m – a swim off the Main Beach, a great introduction to open water swimming
‘Banana Boat OceanKids’ 200m – a swim for children aged between 7-12 years old, consisting of a 200m shallow water swim along the Main Beach shore line, lined with Surf Life Saving NZ guards
The New Zealand Ocean Swim Series is the largest group of open water swims in New Zealand, with over 8,000 swimmers participating in these 7 popular and professionally run races. So if you are a local looking to add more points to your Global Ranking from the other GSS races in New Zealand or you are someone vacationing in New Zealand and want to add points to your other races from around the world, these are fun and inclusive races that are well worth looking up!
