Looking ahead to September there are two fantastic race weekends coming up. Both are situated in the United States’ beautiful north-eastern region on gorgeous fresh water lakes.

Lake Hopatcong Open Water Swim Festival

The first of the two race weekends is Lake Hopatcong Open Water Swim Festival. This event is situated at the norther tip of one of New Jersey’s recreation jewels, Lake Hopatcong. The lake itself is 8 miles long and is New Jersey’s largest lake. Tourists and locals alike enjoy the area for boating, fishing, lakeside dinning, kayaking, and of course, swimming!

The swim festival is set to take place on September 9th and offers four distances to choose from. First out of the gate will be the 2 mile swim, followed by the 1 mile Tom Wear Memorial swim, then a 0.5 mile swim and a fun 100 meter swim for kids age 12 and under. The straight, out and back style course offers a fast and enjoyable swim for all levels.

2018 is the 10th anniversary of the race! Over the years the event has kept its original spirit of giving and maintains its charitable affiliation. This year’s event is operating in support of animal rescue and K9 teams and to find out more about which charities are named and how to donate please visit their charity webpage.

Finger Lakes Open Water Swim

The second of the two race weekends takes place at Watkins Glen on the weekend on September 22nd to 23rd. Located in up-state New York, the Finger Lakes Open Water Swim Festival offers another spectacular venue at the southern point of Seneca Lake.

This event takes place over two days with four distances to choose from. The challenging 10 mile race takes place on Saturday, September 22nd and uses an out and back style course on the western side of the lake. On Sunday, September 23rd three events take place, the 2 mile, 1 mile and 0.5 mile swims. The course is set up as a 1 mile loop along the eastern side of the lake with an in-water start and an extra marker for the 0.5 mile race.

The water temperature in September hovers between 60-74°F which makes this late season swim an enjoyable competition for many competitors. Triathletes and swimmers will both be drawn to this event and 2018 is sure to be another great time so reserve your spot now and start looking forward to September!
