We are proud to announce the 2nd annual GSS North American Championships will be hosted by the “Swim for Alligator Lighthouse”… on September 23, 2017!

After the very successful inaugural GSS North American Championships in Toronto, Canada last year, the race has been moved to the spectacular Florida Keys!

The race is coming up quickly, on September 23, 2017 and will be held on the gorgeous island of “Isla Morada” in the Florida Keys.  The race is 8 miles (13k) total, on an out and back course to Alligator Lighthouse.

Now I know what you are thinking, but it is called “Alligator Lighthouse” because it was built 195 years ago, in 1822, when the US Navy Schooner, “The Alligator” ran aground there.  So don’t let that scare you off!

As daunting as an 8 mile/13k swim might sound, you have a choice of solo, 2, 3 or 4 swimmer relays too.  One cool feature about the relays is that your relay team is also your kayak support!  So the kayakers also swim and the swimmers also kayak, you just switch on the fly, so everybody gets involved.  And kayaking 8 miles is no piece of cake either, so everyone has to be prepared!

The upside, however, is that it is a spectacular swim.  The water is warm, high 80’s and is crystal clear, so you can see all kinds of beautiful fish and sea life.  A magnificent swim.

It is the perfect destination race and only a 2 hour drive from Miami.  It is one of those races where it doesn’t take much arm twisting to get a bunch of friends or family to join you!

The only catch is, like the GSS Global Championships in Cancun a few months ago, it sells out fast!  Especially the solo swims, so get your registration in now if you are up to the challenge!
