The great thing about the Global Swim Series races is the choice.  There are so many amazing choices.  Some races are very competitive and bring in world class swimmers and some aren’t.  You have the Mighty Mac with $40,000 in prize money… or the 2nd oldest continuously run race, historic Liffey Swim through Dublin, Ireland… the Alcatraz Swim with the Centurions in San Francisco… or the historically significant Freedom Swim in Cape Town, South Africa… and dozens and dozens more. The Swim for Haiti is one of numerous races that raise funds for a good cause, it is also possibly the most “grass roots” race you will ever swim.  The escort boats are hand-made dug-out canoes!

Swim for Haiti’s fourth annual swim will even feature a 10km swim from the Iles des Arcadins to the coast of Haiti through warm Caribbean waters.  The race is coming up fast, taking place on February 19th.

This is definitely a unique race and well of the beaten path.  But it is still well organised with the help of Simon Murie, founder of Swimtrek.com.  He will be directing the race again this year. Swimmers who want to participate but are unsure of the distance or about the logistics of going to Haiti can book a fully guided adventure tour through Swimtrek as well, they are running a trip specifically for the race. For those who want to swing it by themselves, Swim for Haiti staff will provide shuttle service from the airport and help with hotel rooms. More information at swimforhaiti.org or email info@swimforhaiti.org
