The Nelson Mandela Bay River Mile
About 1,000 swimmers will be enjoying the fun and competition at "The River Mile" in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa. The River Mile is the oldest open water race in Africa and one of the oldest races in the world!
The first race was run in 1924 and has been one of South Africa's biggest and most popular races ever since! The River Mile is a fast and competitive open water race, but the event is much more than that. It is an action packed family day out at the picturesque Sundays River venue.
This amazing event has something for everyone, which includes a wide variety of crafts, vendors, beer garden, Rotary Kids Zone and sporting events suitable for the entire family!
The specific events include the "Men's & Ladies River Mile", "The Blusmooth Wetsuit Mile", "The Oracle Media Disabled Mile", "The Nitro Park Kids" across the River races (12 years and under), a 5km Family Fun Run and even an off-road triathlon. Entry into the secure festival area is just R20 (kids 10u free) whilst participants wearing their relevant race wrist bands get in free!
