VOWSA (Vancouver Open Water Swimming Association) has just added 3 great, and very different, races to the Global Swim Series.
Along with the race just across the bay, the Nanimo Ocean Swim, on Vancouver Island, this makes 4 spectacularly beautiful races in the Vancouver area. It also takes the total number of GSS races in Canada to 16, and 98 in the world!
Aside from being in the beautiful mountainous setting of Vancouver, these races couldn’t be more different.
Canada Day Challenge – July 1 (naturally!), this race is held in a small, calm, fresh-water lake only a short drive into the mountains from Vancouver. They usually get over 300 swimmers for this race too! Lots of fun!
Kits Challenge – July 16, right in the heart of one of the largest Canadian cities and most beautiful cities in the world! A wide variety of distances (and great pricing!) on the beautiful Kitsilano Beach, right next to the 137m ocean pool and in the trendy “Kits” neighborhood of Vancouver.
Bay Challenge – August 12, this is the big one! A challenging 9.6 km race across the Bay, from West Van to Kits Beach! This race is a true classic… at 85 years old! Spectacularly beautiful and equally challenging! But don’t worry, there is a relay option too.
This is really exciting news for swimmers in Vancouver, who can start building a Global Ranking, but also for travelers across Canada and around the world who want a good reason to visit incredible Vancouver!
