We are excited to welcome back a fantastic group of swims to the 2018 Global Swim Series calendar. These swims take place across the globe, celebrating the amazing sport of open water swimming.
Let’s take a look at what we can look forward to in 2018:
In Ireland, The Great Fjord Swim has joined GSS for another season and we couldn’t be more pumped! This amazing race takes place in beautiful Killary, Ireland on October 6. With three distances to challenge competitors (3.9km, 2km, 750m), this year’s race is sure to boast a great turnout. But, remember to bring your wetsuit! The Irish fjord’s temperature tends to hover around 13C/55F, a brisk temp for even the most seasoned of swimmers.
If you are looking for something warmer, the check out the Maraton Internacional Acapulco in Mexico. This 60-year-old race takes place over 2 days and is the largest in Mexico, attracting over 4000 competitors. This family friendly event looks forward to host swimmers from a number of different countries including Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, and others. Participants range in age from 8 to 75 years and there is something for everyone so don’t miss your chance to be part of something special on December 8th and 9th in Acapulco, Mexico!
For a scenic adventure, check out the Schwimm Festival Neusiedler See in one of Austria’s most beautiful national parks. Taking place over three days from June 15-17th, this event boasts 5 distances to choose from: 500m, 1km, 1.9km, 3.5km crossing, and 5km. Given the wide range of options, this event has something for all skill and experience levels. If you are more of the cheering type, this event has you covered. Friends and family of competitors can cheer from one of the boats that follows the first swimmers and a sponsored breakfast is provided to help fuel your enthusiastic cheering! Another plus is that this race takes place in Austria’s wine region, so don’t miss out on sampling some of the country’s best at (or after!) this year’s event.
